Newly elected UBB President, Robert Mills of Athens, Texas, is making preparations to appoint members to various committees in the coming week. Committee members are appointed annually for a one-year term.
If you are inserted in volunteering to serve on one of the UBB committees described below, send an email to with your name, phone number, committee(s) of interest and a line or two describing your interest by 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22.
Duties for UBB Standing Committees
Breed Improvement and Standards Committee:
The Breed Improvement and Standards Committee's purpose is to review the accomplishments, monitor and evaluate the current position of the breed and recommend future directions and specifications for the breed. This committee is responsible for the research, development and implementation of tools and standards necessary for the advancement of the breed and recommends all activities involving registration and breed improvement.
Budget and Finance Committee:
The role of the Budget and Finance committee is primarily to provide financial oversight for the association. This includes:
Budgeting and financial planning
Monitoring of internal controls and accountability policies.
Develop an annual operating with the Executive Director
Monitor the adherence to the budgets
Set long term financial goals to achieve for long term financial stability
Present all financial goals and proposals to the Board of Directors for approval
The Budget and Finance Committee shall have access to the books of account of the corporation, and shall have annual reviews made by a qualified accountant of such books.
Bylaws and Ethics Committee:
The role of this committee is to consider and make recommendations for updates and revisions to the UBB bylaws. The Bylaws and Ethics Committee handles all matters pertaining to the ethics and standards as outlines in the UBB bylaws.
The Public Relations Committee leads the development of UBB communications and publicity and promotion of the Braford breed. The committee is instrumental in aiding in the promotion of the UBB to enhance the value of Braford cattle in the industry. The committee is to help develop and maintain relationships with allied industry groups as deemed appropriate by the Board. The Public Relations Committee shall recommend all activities involving relationships with the public and with government bodies.
The Sale Committee is responsible for the management and production of the International Braford Sale at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and assisting with Bull Development Committee with the Advancing the Braford Breed Sales.
Bull Development Program Committee:
One of the most active committees, the Bull Development Program Committee is responsible for the management of the annual Advancing the Braford Breed Sales.
The Show Committee is responsible for selecting judges for several of the National Braford Shows and reviewing show rules and compliance monitoring.
Youth Activities Committee:
The Youth Activities Committee oversees the activities of the National Junior Braford Association, the official youth organization of the UBB.
International Marketing Committee:
Focused on international marketing growth and development, the International Committee coordinates booths and trade show displays at various events such as the International Room at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Fort Worth Stock Show. This committee is instrumental in planning the 2018 World Braford Conference, hosted by the UBB in 2018.
